For those who may not be aware, this is our "cornerstone" in the kitchen, the process we go through each year, and the demand keeps growing. The biggest challenge is we still do everything a bit old fashioned. Our rolls are made "literally" by hand, each and every one. The process of "pinching" the dough is very tiresome. We also can only cook 6 pans at a time. The process of our homemade rolls and pies begins tomorrow!! Thank you Andrea and Austin for taking the lead on the rolls but also getting us ready for pies as well. Thank you to Andrea, Hilary, Tori, Jana, and all the rest of our crew that will be helping make Thanksgiving happen for our guests.

Due to the amazing demand (especially for rolls), we will have to put an end to our Thanksgiving orders at the end of business on Saturday (17th). We may be able to add a few pie orders Monday or Tuesday but we will have to see, and as always, anything we still have available at end of day on Wednesday (21st) before Thanksgiving, we will be happy to sell. Due to lack of business traffic associated with Halloween, the Idle Isle Cafe will close around 3:00 today.
My heart is very sad with the loss such a fine man like Dennis Vincent. I was delighted to rub shoulders with him several times here at the Idle Isle Cafe as he, and many others spent time raising money for Special Olympics here during their "Tip a Cop" program. I am honored to call him my friend, and will miss him.
I just wanted to send a shout out for this company. Point Emblems is an amazing company with an amazing story. They helped us with some logo designs as well as Idle Isle Cafe pins, lanyards, and stickers. A wide variety of products to offer for marketing, recognition, etc.

I would like to share a brief story that took place several months ago. I have hesitated to do so, but feel now may be a good time. It was about this time of year, and a woman came in to inform us they had a group of people coming in for a family get together. She explained to me that her father was ill and they wanted to have everyone meet. We were a good neutral location. However, the father had apparently had a less than desirable experience his last visit, some 50 years prior. He swore he would never visit the Cafe again. After some persuasion from his family, he agreed to come. We made his server aware of the situation, but didn't necessarily do anything out of the ordinary. We try to make all of our guests feel welcome and comfortable and do our best to provide quality service and food. When they stood up to leave, the gentleman walked up to me. I put my hand out to shake his hand, but in turn, he gave me a hug. He thanked me for a good meal and a good visit. He also apologized to me that he had let that one experience keep him from coming back earlier. His experience made my day. I do not know what happened 50 years earlier, and, admittedly, nor could he. Sadly, we operate a business that is prone to mistakes. We do all we can to avoid and eliminate mistakes, but they do happen. We encourage our staff to make us aware of things that may be of concern to our guests. It is much easier to try to correct or fix a situation in the moment rather than years later. We are grateful for anyone that walks through our doors and will give us the opportunity to be of service.

With our current staff, our rolls and desserts are amazing, and we are prepared to meet the demand. The Idle Isle Cafe will be Closed on Labor Day, September 3rd. This will allow a small break for the business and our employees to prepare for Peach Days.
